Manager, Clinical Practice

The Manager, Clinical Practice ensures the highest level of nursing and personal support care is provided to all clients. Accountable for providing clinical education following the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Standards of Practice; and a clear understanding, implementation and evaluation of nursing Best Practice Guidelines. The position is accountable for the development of, review and adherence to all policies and procedures regarding clinical practice; including supervision of Nursing Staff.

Job Duties

  • Development of Policies and Procedures according to Best Practice Guidelines.
  • Monitor and update clinical policies and procedures based on the College of nurses of Ontario, Legislation, professional education and journals.
  • Development, implementation, education, supervision and evaluation of clinical practice.
  • Ensure standards in documentation and practice are followed.
  • Provide guidance to the team members for decision making regarding nursing, staff/client rights, risk management, ethics and services.
  • Mentor nurses including facilitating program and staff development.
  • Practice and educate nurses in client-centered care and evidence based nursing practice.
  • Develop plans and education related to identified risks, incidents, adverse events and staff or client complaints/concerns.
  • Participate in the recruitment and orientation of nursing staff.
  • Must ensure the nurses operate ethically according to the CNO.
  • Supervise, support and direction to nursing staff
  • Monitor the performance of nursing staff, conduct probation, annual performance reviews and report any concerns/deficiencies.
  • Participate in organizational quality improvement plans.
  • Maintain current nursing skills through field work as a community nurse includin the programs relevant to specialty areas. 1/3 of hours worked are in the field.
  • Participate in developing Care Plans and ensuring appropriate use of services in consolidated services model.
  • Must participate in the on call rotation.


  • Registered Nurse licensed with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Teachers certificate, or 2 years of experience in education preferred
  • Current level “C” CPR certification.
  • Bilingual in French and English preferred.
  • Recent clinical experience in community nursing, 5 years preferred.
  • Excellence in teaching, adult learning and facilitation.
  • Ability to impart information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Leadership skills, ability to mentor staff and facilitate program and staff development.
  • Analytical, problem-solving.
  • Must have a clear understanding of ethics according to the CNO.
  • Sensitivity to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Initiative and commitment to continuing professional development in specialty areas.
  • Commitment to client-centered care and evidence based nursing practice.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution skills.
  • High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Strong knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance coverage with own vehicle and ability to travel. “Business Use” insurance required for Visit Nursing program.
